Storytelling about Assembly’s Origins & History

This 2021 interview with Mary Ellen Meyer, gives one person’s first-person perspective on the origins of Assembly.

In this seven-minute clip from the Sept 8, 2019 Dedication Service (after the renovation adding the new Worship Space to the meetinghouse on New York Street), pastoral team member Karl Shelly offers an interpretation of Assembly’s history in 3 waves: (1) the first beginning in the 1970s, (2) the second wave beginning in the mid-1990s, (3) the third wave beginning around 2010. Karl also suggests three ways Assembly’s path ahead might incorporate these three strands of Assembly’s past.

In this seven-minute video clip from January 7, 2024 (the 50th Anniversary of the official origins of Assembly Mennonite Church), Dana Miller shares his version of the origins of Assembly from the house church movement in Goshen and the small groups movement in Goshen in the 1970s.
