Pastoral Job Posting June 2018

Assembly Mennonite Church

Assembly Mennonite Church, in Goshen, Indiana is a growing congregation of progressive Christians who seek to follow Jesus’ way of love and peace. Assembly is seeking one half-time pastoral candidate to join three existing part-time pastors to complete a 4-person pastoral team. This team will have primary responsibility for overseeing the spiritual health, vibrancy, and direction of the congregation. Each pastor will meet with appropriate committees and other groups related to their ministry focus. They will provide pastoral care to Assembly participants, preach occasionally as fits Assembly’s participatory worship model, lead communion and other elements of worship, plan elders’ retreats, oversee interns, and attend church-wide conferences and participate in wider-church events as appropriate. Assembly Mennonite places high value on a participatory form of membership, seeking to utilize the gifts of all members rather than relying on paid pastoral staff to fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of the congregation. We value pastoral candidates who place a high emphasis on mentoring others as well as leading by example.

The Pastor of Congregational Life and Hospitality will be the primary contact with the internal committees of Assembly and work alongside the Chair of the congregation to plan leadership and congregational meetings. They will supervise the work of the Church Administrator. They will also oversee the hospitality ministry of the congregation, working to help orient newcomers to Assembly and including them in the active life of the congregation as appropriate. This is a .56 FTE position.

The successful candidate will have the necessary experience or training including a Masters level degree from seminary or in a related field. Supplemental theological education is requested if a seminary degree has not been completed. Pastoral experience, while not required, is a plus. An awareness of and commitment to Anabaptist thought and practice are essential. Assembly encourages applications from under-represented groups.

Candidates may apply by filling out the Ministerial Leadership Information (MLI) form available at the denominational office of Mennonite Church USA. Completion of this form will include an interview with Central District Conference Minister. Find the MLI at http://mennoniteusa.org/resource/ministerial-inquiry-form/

If you already have an updated MLI on record with Mennonite Church USA and wish to apply please contact Doug Luginbill at confmin@mcusacdc.org to express interest.
